OTD Introduces "Commercializing Innovation" Speakers Series

On March 27, OTD kicked off a new series entitled “Commercializing Innovation” with the goal of bringing Harvard innovators together with experts in the industry to discuss the nuts and bolts of taking technology from lab to market. The inaugural session featured patent attorney Bob Sayre, who introduced the fundamentals of patent law and shared some engaging case studies relevant to entrepreneurs, start-ups, and their intellectual property. Bob has prosecuted patent applications for several Harvard technologies and has specific experience in a wide range of fields, including materials science, chemistry, electronics, optics/photonics, alternative energy, radiation imaging, and mechanical engineering. Attendees packed Maxwell Dworkin's upstairs lounge to receive a strong foundation in patent strategy from what is patentable to the advantages provided by this protection.

The next session of Commercializing Innovation, “Starting up a Start-up,” will take place on April 24. This talk will feature Carl Vause, CEO of Harvard technology start-up Soft Robotics, Inc.
