"Starting up a Startup" features Harvard technology CEO
On April 24, the OTD Commercializing Innovation series presented “Starting up a Start-up” to offer Harvard innovators a taste of what it entails to create a company from research technology. Carl Vause, CEO of the recent Harvard startup Soft Robotics, Inc., discussed what it takes to succeed in the “innovation ecosystem.” While a pioneering mindset is paramount, the discussion also addressed the legal, financial, and structural considerations necessary to undertake an entrepreneurial endeavor. Carl’s personal experience with Soft Robotics, developed from the revolutionary technology coming out of the Whitesides Research Group, provided a fascinating context to illustrate these foundational concerns. Attendees even gathered with Carl in the hallway after the event to continue the spirited discussion.
On July 24, the Commercializing Innovation series will tackle “Demystifying SBIR Grants,” with speaker Dr. Betsy Ohlsson-Wilhelm, CEO of SciGro, Inc.
