Vani Velamoor, PhD

Associate Director of Intellectual Property, Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering

Vani joined the Harvard University Office of Technology Development in 2019. She works with the members of the Advanced Technology team, Intellectual Property, and Business professionals at the Wyss Institute in devising strategies to patent and protect innovative bio-inspired inventions stemming from the Institute. She provides ongoing service and education to the Wyss faculty and staff on issues relating to the protection of intellectual property and assists in the development and implementation of effective strategies to commercialize the intellectual property assets of the Wyss Institute at Harvard University.

Vani has several years of experience in building and managing patent estates that align with business goals for clients in the healthcare space. She previously served as Manager, Patent Prosecution & Strategy of Epidestiny, Inc., as Patent Advisor in Benesch Friedlander Coplan Aronoff LLP in Ohio, as independent IP Consultant for multiple bay area biopharmaceutical companies, and as Head of Patent Search division in Maxval Group, Inc., a Patent Lifecycle Management firm in California. Vani completed her doctorate in India and continued her post-doctoral research in Max Perutz Laboratories, Vienna Austria, Entomology Research Institute, Czech Republic, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, in NY.
