Harvard Grid's Lab-to-Launch Lounge 4/11/24
April 11th, 2024 ~ 04:00pm - 06:00pm
The Node (Rm. 2.203), 150 Western Ave, Boston, MA 02134, USA
Join us this week as we sit down with Rob Devlin, Co-founder and CEO of Metalenz and David Cohen-Tanugi, Co-founder of Ember Labs.
The Lab-to-Launch Lounge (LLL) series brings Harvard graduate students in CxO roles back to campus to hear how they launched their research out from Harvard labs:
- how did they get here
- what would they do differently--and what they would not do at all--if a student again
- anything else on your mind
Join the discussion, meet fun people, grab a bite, and leave with new ideas. Open to the Harvard community.
Bios:
Rob Devlin is co-founder and CEO of Metalenz, a fabless optical semiconductor company pioneering the commercialization of meta-optics. His work focuses on moving scientific research towards real world applications leading to 15 patents and patent applications. In 2022, Rob and his team at Metalenz announced the world’s first metasurfaces in market in consumer devices via a partnership with semiconductor giant, STMicroelectronics. Prior to co-founding Metalenz, Rob completed a joint BS/MS in Electrical Engineering and Materials Science at Drexel University and a Ph.D. at Harvard University in Applied Physics with Professor Federico Capasso. His research has spanned the topics of nanofabrication, nanophotonics, and materials science. He has authored or co-authored 20+ publications that have provided critical advances in the emerging field of metasurfaces- one of which was selected as the cover of Science Journal and voted one of Science’s 10 breakthroughs of 2016.
David Cohen-Tanugi, Ph.D. is a senior product leader specialized in IoT, data science, and clean energy. He has over a decade of experience in technology development and commercialization. David is the co-founder and Chief Data Officer of Embr Labs, a wellness tech company with over 100,000 customers. David received his Ph.D. from MIT’s Department of Materials Science & Engineering in 2015, where he leveraged computational methods to investigate the potential of next-generation water desalination membranes made from graphene. His research was listed among the Top Five Most Surprising Scientific Discoveries of 2012 by Smithsonian. David has been recognized by Forbes’ 30 Under 30 award as well as MIT Technology Review’s French Innovators Under 35 award.
