Heat Sensor for Living Cells

Researchers at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences built a device called a pico-calorimeter that directly measures heat signals from small groups of living cells. The device could lead to advances in bacterial growth monitoring or antibiotic resistance testing.

Researchers in Andrew Kruse’s lab overcame a key obstacle in using the hormone relaxin as a therapy for heart disease. With support from Harvard’s Blavatnik Biomedical Accelerator, this discovery led to the launch of Tectonic Therapeutic, which is now testing its relaxin-based drug in clinical trials.
